May 1, 2020

Beginning Monday, May 4, all nine MCPL locations will begin offering curbside pickup for the duration of the library’s COVID-19-related closure. To participate in this service, please thoroughly read and follow the steps below:

1. PLACE YOUR HOLDS ONLINE OR BY CALLING YOUR LOCAL MCPL LOCATION

To place a hold on an item, patrons can either call their preferred MCPL location or place holds via the V-Cat catalog. If contacting by phone, please call the library that you plan on picking up your items at.

Hours that phones will be answered vary by location. For more information about times to call, visit https://mcpl.us/about/locations and click on the specific location you want to call.

Patrons may only request a maximum of 5 items per card, per day, per pickup. Patrons may request items from any of the nine MCPL locations and from a growing number of libraries within the Wisconsin Valley Library Service.

Please note that due to popular demand and limited staffing, it may take up to a few days for items to be ready for pickup.

2. SCHEDULE A TIME TO PICK UP YOUR ITEMS

Once a patron’s item(s) are ready for pickup, they will receive either a phone call or an email notification. To schedule a day and time to pick up their items, patrons should call the library where their items are being held.

To schedule pick up of items from Wausau, patrons should call 715-261-7240. If picking up from a branch library, please call the branch at their phone number listed here. Pickup hours will vary by library location and items cannot be picked up outside of the designated pickup hours.

3. PICK UP YOUR ITEMS

Patrons should arrive at the library on the designated day and time that they scheduled pickup. Each location has a different pickup area, and patrons will be instructed where to go when they call to schedule a pickup time.

Upon arrival, call the library to let them know that you have arrived. If picking up in Wausau, call 715-261-7205. If picking up at a branch library, please call the location’s main number, which can be found here.

Staff will place your bag of materials on a table or chair outside the library (in Wausau and in Marathon City, patrons will use the drive-thru). Once staff is safely back inside the building, the patron may exit their vehicle and retrieve their items. If a patron has mobility issues and requires assistance, the patron will be asked to pop their trunk and library staff will place the items in there.

No item requests/holds will be taken at the pickup spot. In addition, staff will not accept return items, fine payment, or Friends of the Library donations.

4. RETURNING ITEMS

Patrons are asked to return all items through the library’s outside book drops. Items cannot be returned at the curbside pickup spot. Once items are returned, they are quarantined for at least three days to help ensure staff and public safety.

All library materials that were checked out prior to the library’s closure in March will now be due on June 16, and no overdue fines will accumulate during the time that the library is closed.

Please note that these procedures are subject to change based on staffing and the level of curbside service demand. If major adjustments to the procedure are made, updates will be publicized on www.mcpl.us and on the library’s social media accounts.

We sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding and look forward resuming service for our patrons!
