We have so much going on at the Marathon County Public Library!
We recently have learned that the third floor of the main library will not meet the code restrictions to allow for the Children’s Museum of Marathon County to reside there. A comprehensive engineering study confirmed that the amount of renovation required for the floor to meet codes for a museum would be exorbitant and unrealistic. This is most unfortunate, as we see a tremendous opportunity for partnering with the children’s museum to bring STEM programming to all the county’s residents. The children’s museum group will continue to seek a viable location for their project, and we will continue to support those efforts. We look forward to working together to bring this much-needed resource to our community.
The library’s planning and visioning for the future continues, however, with renovations to begin soon. We will be adding a large meeting room to the second floor and a new Friends book sale room in the old bookmobile garage. These two projects will improve access for everyone, and will also allow us to vacate the third floor in hopes of finding a viable use for it. It is my hope that we can identify an education-based community partner to share that space. The renovations are scheduled to begin soon, and we hope to complete them before the new year.
Please visit the library to see what’s new.
Thank you for your support!
