With the holiday season upon us, I would like to share some exciting news for our library users around the county. You may have noticed that we are currently on hold with our interior upgrades, and there is now a plan for the county’s facilities team to complete the roof repairs in the spring. The repairs were attempted last year, but unanticipated structural issues prevented the completion of those repairs. Currently, Marathon County is looking at renewing the project in the spring, after which the interior enhancements will proceed.
Also, I am pleased to report that the library’s board has formed a task force to review MCPL’s library system membership. Currently, we are members of the Wisconsin Valley Library Service, a seven-county consortium based in northcentral Wisconsin. The task force will be reviewing the potential for joining the South Central Library System, based out of Madison. The South Central Library System has access to a collection several times the size of the current catalog and has a larger system with more similarly sized libraries. The task force will be studying how services and opportunities might compare between the two systems. The task force will be conducting this review during the first six months of 2020. Task force meeting minutes and agendas will be posted for the public to keep you informed.
Let me conclude this holiday message with our thanks to all of the people whom we serve. We enjoy a tremendous level of support in our communities, and we appreciate having the opportunity to help to enrich the lives of every one of you through the resources and programs that we provide. We wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season and a happy and prosperous new year!
