Over the summer, we at the Marathon County Public Library (MCPL) have been working on getting our collection of local high school yearbooks uploaded to the Central Wisconsin Digitization Project website. With help from Andi Coffin and WiLS, the first batch of yearbooks is now up on the website and available for viewing here. Our team began with our oldest yearbooks from Wausau High School, scanning and uploading almost all of the yearbooks from Wausau High School and Wausau East High School through the year 2000. When browsing, you may notice a few missing yearbooks - that's because we don't own a copy and no one has donated their copy to us to add to our collection. If you'd like to help us complete...

March 26, 2020

Though the Marathon County Public Library is temporarily closed due to concerns over COVID-19, there is a bit of good news to share - Ancestry.com: Library Edition will be available to access from home now through the month of April (and possibly longer!)  Ancestry.com: Library Edition can generally only be accessed from within one of the nine MCPL locations, but due to the current pandemic, our subscription has been extended to include home access as well! So, if you're interested in learning more about your family and your ancestors during your time at home, we have a couple of places to start.  First, Ancestry.com contains a wealth of documents that will (hopefully) help fill in the...

December 21, 2018

Starting last October, the Marathon County Public Library began offering access to Newspapers.com to its patrons. Owned by Ancestry.com, Newspapers.com bills itself as the largest newspaper archive site on the Internet, providing its users with access to over 11,000 newspapers ranging from the 1700s through the 2000s, with new issues being added on a monthly basis. The decision to offer Newspapers.com to library patrons was made earlier this year by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The site will be used as a replacement for Access NewspaperARCHIVE, a similar resources that the DPI discontinued using earlier this year. Newspapers.com is an online resource that many patrons have requested...

The Marathon County Public Library offers many services along with a world of information in various forms. One of the most in-demand resources the library offers is our collection of Wausau Daily Herald newspapers at MCPL Wausau. The newspaper is available in two forms. The library retains paper copies of current issues until we receive a microfilm copy. Normally one microfilm reel contains one month's worth of issues. The library has microfilm of the Wausau Daily Herald back to its origins in 1907. The library also has microfilm copies of the four newspapers that preceded the Wausau Daily Herald, namely The Central Wisconsin, Torch of Liberty, Wausau Pilot and Wausau Sun. Microfilm...
