Over the summer, we at the Marathon County Public Library (MCPL) have been working on getting our collection of local high school yearbooks uploaded to the Central Wisconsin Digitization Project website. With help from Andi Coffin and WiLS, the first batch of yearbooks is now up on the website and available for viewing here. Our team began with our oldest yearbooks from Wausau High School, scanning and uploading almost all of the yearbooks from Wausau High School and Wausau East High School through the year 2000. When browsing, you may notice a few missing yearbooks - that's because we don't own a copy and no one has donated their copy to us to add to our collection. If you'd like to help us complete...

November 24, 2021

It may seem obvious that libraries—public and academic alike—support literacy. They have books, magazines and other materials people can read, and provide programming like family story times, so that’s all there is to it, right?Yes and no: Yes, the simple act of reading helps keep the brain sharp and literate; and no, there’s more to it than that, at least as far as the Marathon County Public Library is concerned.November marks National Family Literacy Month, which began in 1994 through the efforts of the non-profit National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) and “offers an opportunity for practitioners to emphasize the important role that families play in the education of their children...

Wisconsin's Digital Library (WDL) is always working to improve your digital library experience, and this occasionally includes adding or changing features. Starting in March, when a digital library hold becomes available for you, you can borrow it immediately (within three days) or have it delivered later.  The "deliver later" option keeps you at the front of the wait list but passes that copy of the title to the next person in line. This feature gives you more control over your holds, so you can borrow and read titles when it's most convenient for you.  Also, to make the "deliver later" option possible, the "auto-checkout" option for holds has been removed.  If you need...

Did you know that the library is a great place to do work on your family tree? The library offers TWO online databases that can help you get started on that family tree project, or help you fill in the blanks on a tree you've already created! Ancestry is only available for use in the library. Heritage Quest, on the other hand, is available for home use. All you'll need is your library card, and you're on your way! Both sites are easy to navigate, and provide access to thousands of death, birth, census, and marriage records. Try it out for yourself! It is fun, easy, and FREE! Both sites are great for beginning or professional genealogists!
