The Lake House

Staff Review: The Lake House

"The Lake House" by Kate Morton

Cover: 'The Lake House'

This astounding and captivating new novel from Kate Morton is utterly amazing. When detective Sadie Sparrows is forced to take a leave from work and stay with her grandfather in Cornwall, she stumbles upon an abandoned lake house standing beautiful and stagnant in time. When she finds out that the family left everything in place behind locked doors after the disappearance of the youngest son decades earlier, Sadie is enthralled by the never solved case. After Sadie contacts one of the siblings and current owner of the lake house, who is now a famous mystery writer in London, long hidden secrets trapped inside the house start to unravel. I immediately fell in love with this book, and even though a few small parts in the middle slowed the novel down for me, when I reached the end it was like fireworks were going off when all the clues were coming together in such an artful way that is a true trademark for this author. I was completely oblivious to the outside world for at least the last 100 pages of this incredible novel. I highly recommend it, especially for fans of historical fiction and/or mystery lovers as well!
