Staff Review: "Out of the Easy"
We can’t choose the families that we are born into but we can choose our destiny. Born to a prostitute mother and an unknown father, and living in a brothel with her mother in the French Quarter, Josie Moraine appears to have the cards stacked against her. While cleaning rooms at a brothel, working at a bookstore, and being tangled up in a murder investigation, she dreams of a better life beginning with a degree from the elite Smith College. This triumphant novel by the author of Between Shades of Gray engages the reader with its captivating and wonderfully developed characters. Teens and others will not be able to put this book down until the very end.
