SUMMARY:Wausau: Winter Reading Program: A Cozy Night In
DESCRIPTION:Adults are invited to join our Winter Reading Program\, running from December through February! Participants will pledge to read at least five books\, attend three MCPL events\, and complete various challenges over three months for a chance to win cozy\, reading-themed prizes. Starting December 1\, stop by the Reference Desk on the second floor at MCPL-Wausau to pick up your log sheet and get started. This sheet will help you track your progress throughout the program. To be eligible for a prize at the end\, participants must turn in their completed log sheet by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday\, March 7. Three grand prize winners will be selected and contacted on Friday\, March 13. \nAs a bonus\, two special events will be held at MCPL-Wausau in connection with the Winter Reading Program\, featuring prize drawings at the end of each event just for attending and participating! These events are: \n-Silent Book Club: A Cozy Night In \n-Tea Blending Workshop \nStarting December 1\, stop by the library for your log sheet\, grab some books\, and let the winter reading fun begin! SUMMARY:Wausau: Book Club: "The Nickel Boys" by Colson Whitehead
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our February book club to discuss “The Nickel Boys” by Colson Whitehead. \n1960s Florida. Kept on the straight and narrow by his grandmother\, Elwood Curtis is about to enroll in the local black college. But for a black boy in the Jim Crow South\, one mistake is enough to destroy the future. He is sentenced to a juvenile reformatory called the Nickel Academy\, whose mission statement says it provides “physical\, intellectual and moral training” so the delinquent boys in their charge can become “honorable and honest men.” In reality\, the Nickel Academy is a chamber of horrors\, where physical\, emotional and sexual abuse is rife\, where corrupt officials and tradesmen do a brisk trade in supplies intended for the school\, and where any boy who resists is likely to disappear “out back.” He meets Turner\, who knows that the world is crooked\, and that the only way to survive is to scheme and avoid trouble. DESCRIPTION:Fame. Glory. Riches. All of these things draw you to the arena to test your mettle. Do you think you have what it takes? Join us at the library for our Teen Dungeons & Dragons Battle Royale\, where it’s player versus player. Registration is required\, and will open on January 26. Only official Wizards of the Coast (WotC) content is allowed\, no partnered content. Be sure to follow Dungeons & Dragons 5.5 2024 rules and have a level 5 character prepared. You are allowed your class and background starting equipment\, one uncommon magic item\, and one uncommon potion.
