Cultures in Conflict on the Roof of the World: China & Tibet

Adults

Join us for an engaging talk on the history of Tibet, its occupation by China starting in the 1950s and points of conflict between the two countries and cultures that continue to this day.

Rick Lohr, scholar, former teacher and world traveler, will share perspectives and photos from his 2001 trip to Tibet - considered the "Rooftop of the World" - along with an update of the region's history over the last two decades.

China has determined that Tibet will be a part of Chinese territory, though Tibet's government-in-exile still asserts its independence and many Tibetans oppose becoming Chinese. The results have been many points of conflict between the two cultures.

Rick Lohr has an MST from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with subject concentration in East Asian History in the Twentieth Century. He also was a world history teacher at Wausau West and Newman high schools.

Free and open to the public, no registration required. Call 715-659-3996 for more information.
