SUMMARY:Wausau: ADRC: Dementia Overview
DESCRIPTION:MCPL is partnering with the ADRC this spring to bring a series of programs designed to provide information and resources regarding dementia. Join us on April 6 as we give an overview of dementia. What is considered “normal aging” and when should you be concerned? Forgetfulness can be a normal part of aging—but when memory loss and other thinking problems start to interfere with daily life\, it may be a sign of dementia. Dementia is a general term for conditions that affect memory\, language\, problem-solving\, and other cognitive abilities. \nWhether you’re adjusting to a new diagnosis\, looking to better support someone you care about\, or are interested in learning more\, this presentation—led by staff from the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Central Wisconsin—will provide a helpful introduction to understanding dementia. \nThis free event is open to adults and no registration is required. We’ll meet in the Community Room. For more information\, please contact us at 715-261-7230.

SUMMARY:Wausau: ADRC: Memory Screening
DESCRIPTION:Registration for this event is now closed. MCPL Wausau is partnering with the ADRC this spring to bring a series of programs designed to provide information and resources regarding dementia. Join us on April 13 as we offer free memory screenings. A memory screening is a simple and safe “healthy brain check-up” that tests your memory and other thinking skills. We cannot offer any diagnosis\, but this is a significant first step to find out whether the changes you’re noticing are typical with aging or if they may need further attention and should be discussed with your healthcare provider. These screenings will be provided by staff from the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Central Wisconsin. \nThis free event is open to adults\, and registration is required. Please note the average screening takes about 15 minutes.

SUMMARY:Edgar: Book Club: "The Measure" by Nikki Erlick
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! In April\, the group will discuss “The Measure” by Nikki Erlick. \nWhen every person across the globe receives a small wooden box bearing the same inscription and a single piece of string inside\, the world is thrown into a collective frenzy in this novel\, told through multiple perspectives that introduces an unforgettable cast of characters. It seems like any other day: You wake up\, pour a cup of coffee\, and head out. But today when you open your front door\, waiting for you is a small wooden box. This box holds your fate inside: the answer to the exact number of years you will live. From suburban doorsteps to desert tents\, every person on every continent receives the same box. In an instant\, the world is thrust into a collective frenzy. Where did these boxes come from? What do they mean? Is there truth to what they promise? As society comes together and pulls apart\, everyone faces the same shocking choice: Do they wish to know how long they’ll live? And\, if so\, what will they do with that knowledge? \nNo registration is required\, and all are welcome! For more information\, please contact us at 715-352-3155.

SUMMARY:Hatley: Book Club: “The Women” by Kristin Hannah
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! In April\, the group will discuss “The Women” by Kristin Hannah. \nWomen can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words\, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched\, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents\, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965\, the world is changing\, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam\, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path. “The Women” is the story of one woman gone to war\, but it shines a light on all women who put themselves in harm’s way and whose sacrifice and commitment to their country has too often been forgotten. A novel about deep friendships and bold patriotism\, “The Women” is a richly drawn story with a memorable heroine whose idealism and courage under fire will come to define an era. \nEveryone is welcome to join the discussion. No registration is required. Stop by the library for a copy of the book to check out! For more information\, please contact us at 715-446-3537.

SUMMARY:Stratford: Book Club: “The Diamond Eye” by Kate Quinn
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! In April\, the group will discuss “The Diamond Eye” by Kate Quinn. \nIn 1937 in the snowbound city of Kyiv\, wry and bookish history student Mila Pavlichenko organizes her life around her library job and her young son\, but Hitler’s invasion of Ukraine and Russia sends her on a different path. Given a rifle and sent to join the fight\, Mila must forge herself from studious girl to deadly sniper—a lethal hunter of Nazis known as Lady Death. When news of her three hundredth kill makes her a national heroine\, Mila is sent to America on a goodwill tour. \nStill reeling from war wounds and devastated by loss\, Mila finds herself isolated and lonely in the glittering world of Washington\, DC—until an unexpected friendship with First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and an even more unexpected connection with a silent fellow sniper offer the possibility of happiness. But when an old enemy from Mila’s past joins forces with a deadly new foe lurking in the shadows\, Lady Death finds herself battling her own demons and enemy bullets in the deadliest duel of her life. \nNo registration is required\, and all are welcome! Stop by the library to pick up a copy of the book. Can’t make it? Join us to discuss the same book for our evening book club on April 28. For more information\, please contact us at 715-687-4420.

SUMMARY:Edgar: ADRC: Memory Screening
DESCRIPTION:MCPL Edgar is partnering with the ADRC this spring to bring a series of programs designed to provide information and resources regarding dementia. Join us on April 15 as we offer free memory screenings. \nThis free event is open to adults\, and registration is required to ensure your spot by calling 715-352-3155. You may also call for more information. Please note the average screening takes about 15 minutes\, so when you call to register\, please have a time ready to sign up for. Each time slot is for one person only. We ask that if you have previously participated to not register and save space for others.

SUMMARY:Stratford: Evening Book Club: “The Diamond Eye” by Kate Quinn
Stop by MCPL-Stratford to pick up a copy of the book. For more information\, please contact us at 715-687-4420.
