SUMMARY:Summer Library Program (SLP)
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to dig into a summer of discovery! In 2026\, libraries across the country will invite readers of all ages to “Unearth a Story\,” a theme inspired by the wonder of dinosaurs\, paleontology\, and archaeology. These fascinating subjects tap into a natural sense of curiosity and imagination\, encouraging kids and families to ask questions\, explore the past\, and uncover something new. It’s also an invitation to dive into great books\, discover hidden stories\, and explore the ideas and experiences that shape our world. \nOur summer programming has something for all ages\, but it is especially geared towards school-age children\, tweens and teens. \nVisit your library in June to pick up an activity book! Inside you’ll find a complete listing of our summer activities and performances. The activity book also includes puzzles\, a coloring page\, and our summer reading program. \n\n\n	\n \n	\n 75 events found.	\n	\n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n	\n\n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n	Events\n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n \n	\n\n	\n\n\n \n	\n \n	\n\n	\n\n	\n\n\n	\n	Today\n\n	\n	\n \n \n 2026-06-01 \n \n Mon.\, June 1 \n \n - \n \n \n 2026-06-16 \n \n Tue.\, June 16 \n \n \n	\n\n	\n	\n Select date.	\n	\n	\n	\n \n	\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n\n	\n\n\n	\n	\n	\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n \n \n	\n \n June 2026 \n	\n\n\n \n\n	\n	\n \n Mon \n \n 1 \n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n	\n\n\n \n\n \n \n	\n Summer Library Program (SLP)	\n\n \n \n Mon.\, June 1–Mon.\, August 31	\n	\n \n	\n All MCPL Locations	\n	\n Marathon County\, WI\, United States	\n	\n	 \n	+9 more\n\n \n\n \n	We are celebrating the “Unearth a Story” theme through our activity book\, summer performances\, craft activities\, book displays and more! SUMMARY:Wausau: Collage as a Guide for a Liberated Life
DESCRIPTION:If You Can Imagine It\, It’s Possible. Join us for an inclusive collage workshop with a guided discussion lead by artist-activist\, Cassandra Xiong\, B.S. in Sociology. Discussion will spiral around importance of creativity\, embracing imperfection\, the value of the creation process\, and how that process is enhanced when shared with others. Collage is inherently imperfect and messy\, and Cassandra’s work embraces that spirit. Rooted in social change\, she uses creativity as an intentional act of resistance\, healing\, and liberation\, sparking meaningful conversations about the systems that shape our world. This program is made possible through the Create Wisconsin Statewide Artist Grant Program to support creative projects of artists and performers across all 72 of Wisconsin’s counties\, and is supported by Ruth Arts. \nThis free event is open to adults\, with registration required\, opening July 8\, to secure your spot. You may register online or by calling. For more information contact 715-261-7230.

SUMMARY:Marathon City: Book Club: “The House in the Cerulean Sea” by TJ Klune
DESCRIPTION:Join us and other book lovers for a discussion of a variety of books—new and old\, fiction and nonfiction! This August\, we will meet to discuss “The House in the Cerulean Sea” by TJ Klune. \nA magical island. A dangerous task. A burning secret. Linus Baker leads a quiet\, solitary life. At forty\, he lives in a tiny house with a devious cat and his old records. As a Case Worker at the Department in Charge Of Magical Youth\, he spends his days overseeing the well-being of children in government-sanctioned orphanages. When Linus is unexpectedly summoned by Extremely Upper Management he’s given a curious and highly classified assignment: travel to Marsyas Island Orphanage\, where six dangerous children reside: a gnome\, a sprite\, a wyvern\, an unidentifiable green blob\, a were-Pomeranian\, and the Antichrist. Linus must set aside his fears and determine whether or not they’re likely to bring about the end of days. But the children aren’t the only secret the island keeps. Their caretaker is the charming and enigmatic Arthur Parnassus\, who will do anything to keep his wards safe. As Arthur and Linus grow closer\, long-held secrets are exposed\, and Linus must make a choice: destroy a home or watch the world burn. \nEveryone is welcome to join the discussion. Stop by the library to check out a copy of the book. For more information\, call 715-443-2775.

SUMMARY:Edgar: Book Club: "Mountains Beyond Mountains" by Tracy Kidder
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! This August\, we will discuss “Mountains Beyond Mountains” by Tracy Kidder. Doctor\, Harvard professor\, renowned infectious-disease specialist\, anthropologist\, the recipient of a MacArthur “genius” grant\, world-class Robin Hood\, Farmer was brought up in a bus and on a boat\, and in medical school found his life’s calling: to diagnose and cure infectious diseases and to bring the lifesaving tools of modern medicine to those who need them most. \nMountains Beyond Mountains takes us from Harvard to Haiti\, Peru\, Cuba\, and Russia as Farmer changes minds and practices through his dedication to the philosophy that “the only real nation is humanity”—a philosophy that is embodied in the small public charity he founded\, Partners in Health. He enlists the help of the Gates Foundation\, George Soros\, the U.N.’s World Health Organization\, and others in his quest to cure the world. At the heart of this book is the example of a life based on hope\, and on an understanding of the truth of the Haitian proverb “Beyond mountains there are mountains”: as you solve one problem\, another problem presents itself\, and so you go on and try to solve that one too. \nNo registration is required\, and all are welcome! Stop by the library to check out a copy of the book. For more information\, please contact us at 715-352-3155.

SUMMARY:Hatley: Book Club: "The House of My Mother" by Shari Franke
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! This August\, we will discuss “The House of My Mother: A Daughter’s Quest for Freedom” by Shari Franke. \nShari Franke’s childhood was a constant battle for survival. Her mother\, Ruby Franke\, enforced a severe moral code while maintaining a façade of a picture-perfect family for their wildly popular YouTube channel\, 8 Passengers\, which documented the day-to-day life of raising six children for a staggering 2.5 million subscribers. But a darker truth lurked beneath the surface—Ruby’s wholesome online persona masked a more tyrannical parenting style than anyone could have imagined. As the family’s YouTube notoriety grew\, so too did Ruby’s delusions of righteousness. Fueled by the sadistic influence of relationship coach Jodi Hildebrandt\, together they implemented an inhumane and merciless disciplinary regime. Ruby and Jodi were arrested in Utah in 2023 on multiple charges of aggravated child abuse. On that fateful day\, Shari shared a photo online of a police car outside their home. Her caption had one word: “Finally.” For the first time\, Shari will reveal the disturbing truth behind 8 Passengers and her family’s devastating involvement with Jodi Hildebrandt’s cultish life coaching program\, “ConneXions.” No stone is left unturned as Shari exposes the perils of influencer culture and shares for the first time her battle for truth and survival in the face of her mother’s cruelty. \nEveryone is welcome to join the discussion. No registration is required. Stop by the library for a copy of the book to check out! For more information\, please contact us at 715-446-3537.

SUMMARY:Athens: Book Club: "The Four Winds" by Kristin Hannah
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! This August\, the group will discuss “The Four Winds” by Kristin Hannah. \nTexas\, 1934. Millions are out of work and a drought has broken the Great Plains. Farmers are fighting to keep their land and their livelihoods as the crops are failing\, the water is drying up\, and dust threatens to bury them all. One of the darkest periods of the Great Depression\, the Dust Bowl era\, has arrived with a vengeance. In this uncertain and dangerous time\, Elsa Martinelli—like so many of her neighbors—must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or go west\, to California\, in search of a better life. The Four Winds is an indelible portrait of America and the American Dream\, as seen through the eyes of one indomitable woman whose courage and sacrifice will come to define a generation. \nEveryone is welcome to join the discussion. Stop by the library to check out a copy of the book. For more information\, call 715-257-7292.

SUMMARY:Mosinee: Book Club: "The Identicals" by Elin Hilderbrand
DESCRIPTION:Join our Mosinee staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of a variety of books each month! This August\, the group will discuss “The Identicals” by Elin Hilderbrand. \nHarper Frost is laid-back\, easygoing. She doesn’t care what anyone thinks of her. She likes a beer and a shot and wouldn’t be caught dead wearing anything fashionable. She’s inherited her father’s rundown house on Martha’s Vineyard\, but she can’t hold down a job\, and her latest romantic disaster has the entire island talking. Tabitha Frost is dignified\, refined. She prefers a fine wine and has inherited the impeccable taste of her mother\, the iconic fashion designer Eleanor Roxie-Frost. She’s also inherited her mother’s questionable parenting skills–Tabitha’s teenage daughter\, Ainsley\, is in full rebellion mode–and a flailing fashion boutique on Nantucket in desperate need of a cash infusion. After more than a decade apart\, Harper and Tabitha switch islands–and lives–to save what’s left of their splintered family. But the twins quickly discover that the secrets\, lies\, and gossip they thought they’d outrun can travel between islands just as easily as they can. Will Harper and Tabitha be able to bury the hatchet and end their sibling rivalry once and for all? Before the last beach picnic of the season\, there will be enough old resentments\, new loves\, and cases of mistaken identity to make this the most talked-about summer that Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket have experienced in ages. \nNo registration is required\, and new people are always welcome! For more information\, please contact us at 715-693-2144.

SUMMARY:Stratford: Book Club: “The Book Club for Troublesome Women” by Marie Bostwick
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! This August\, we will discuss “The Book Club for Troublesome Women” by Marie Bostwick. \nBy early 1960s standards\, Margaret Ryan\, Viv Buschetti\, and Bitsy Cobb\, suburban housewives in a brand-new “planned community”\, appear to have it all. The fact that “all” doesn’t feel like enough leaves them feeling confused and guilty\, certain the fault must lie with them. Things begin to change when they form a book club with Charlotte Gustafson–the eccentric and artsy “new neighbor” from Manhattan–and read Betty Friedan’s just-released book\, The Feminine Mystique. Controversial and groundbreaking\, the book struck a chord with an entire generation of women\, helping them realize that they weren’t alone in their dissatisfactions\, or their longings\, lifting their eyes to new horizons of possibility and achievement. Margaret\, Charlotte\, Bitsy\, and Viv are among them. But is it really the book that alters the lives of these four very different women? Or is it the bond of sisterhood that helps them find courage to confront the past\, navigate turmoil in a rapidly changing world\, and see themselves in a new and limitless light? \nNo registration is required\, and all are welcome! Stop by the library to pick up a copy of the book. Can’t make it? Join us to discuss the same book for our evening book club on August 25. For more information\, please contact us at 715-687-4420.

SUMMARY:Wausau: Book Club: “The Poisonwood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! This August\, we will meet to discuss “The Poisonwood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver. \nThe Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price\, a fierce\, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home\, but soon find that all of it—from garden seeds to Scripture—is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa. \nThis event is open to adults\, with no registration required. Stop by the main desk at MCPL-Wausau to grab a book that’s ready to check out! For more information\, please contact us at 715-261-7230.
