SUMMARY:Stratford: Book Club: “The Diamond Eye” by Kate Quinn
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! In April\, the group will discuss “The Diamond Eye” by Kate Quinn. \nIn 1937 in the snowbound city of Kyiv\, wry and bookish history student Mila Pavlichenko organizes her life around her library job and her young son\, but Hitler’s invasion of Ukraine and Russia sends her on a different path. Given a rifle and sent to join the fight\, Mila must forge herself from studious girl to deadly sniper—a lethal hunter of Nazis known as Lady Death. When news of her three hundredth kill makes her a national heroine\, Mila is sent to America on a goodwill tour. \nStill reeling from war wounds and devastated by loss\, Mila finds herself isolated and lonely in the glittering world of Washington\, DC—until an unexpected friendship with First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and an even more unexpected connection with a silent fellow sniper offer the possibility of happiness. But when an old enemy from Mila’s past joins forces with a deadly new foe lurking in the shadows\, Lady Death finds herself battling her own demons and enemy bullets in the deadliest duel of her life. \nNo registration is required\, and all are welcome! Stop by the library to pick up a copy of the book. Can’t make it? Join us to discuss the same book for our evening book club on April 28. For more information\, please contact us at 715-687-4420.

SUMMARY:Edgar: ADRC: Memory Screening
DESCRIPTION:MCPL Edgar is partnering with the ADRC this spring to bring a series of programs designed to provide information and resources regarding dementia. Join us on April 15 as we offer free memory screenings. A memory screening is a simple and safe “healthy brain check-up” that tests your memory and other thinking skills. We cannot offer any diagnosis\, but this is a significant first step to find out whether the changes you’re noticing are typical with aging or if they may need further attention and should be discussed with your healthcare provider. These screenings will be provided by staff from the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Central Wisconsin. \nThis free event is open to adults\, and registration is required to ensure your spot by calling 715-352-3155. You may also call for more information. Please note the average screening takes about 15 minutes\, so when you call to register\, please have a time ready to sign up for. Each time slot is for one person only. We ask that if you have previously participated to not register and save space for others.
