SUMMARY:Summer Library Program (SLP)
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to dig into a summer of discovery! In 2026\, libraries across the country will invite readers of all ages to “Unearth a Story\,” a theme inspired by the wonder of dinosaurs\, paleontology\, and archaeology. These fascinating subjects tap into a natural sense of curiosity and imagination\, encouraging kids and families to ask questions\, explore the past\, and uncover something new. It’s also an invitation to dive into great books\, discover hidden stories\, and explore the ideas and experiences that shape our world. \nOur summer programming has something for all ages\, but it is especially geared towards school-age children\, tweens and teens. \nVisit your library in June to pick up an activity book! Inside you’ll find a complete listing of our summer activities and performances. The activity book also includes puzzles\, a coloring page\, and our summer reading program. \n\n\n	\n \n	\n 75 events found.	\n	\n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n	\n\n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n	\n	Events\n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n \n	\n\n	\n\n\n \n	\n \n	\n\n	\n\n	\n\n\n	\n	Today\n\n	\n	\n \n \n 2026-06-01 \n \n Mon.\, June 1 \n \n - \n \n \n 2026-06-16 \n \n Tue.\, June 16 \n \n \n	\n\n	\n	\n Select date.	\n	\n	\n	\n \n	\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n\n	\n\n\n	\n	\n	\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n \n \n	\n \n June 2026 \n	\n\n\n \n\n	\n	\n \n Mon \n \n 1 \n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n	\n\n\n \n\n \n \n	\n Summer Library Program (SLP)	\n\n \n \n Mon.\, June 1–Mon.\, August 31	\n	\n \n	\n All MCPL Locations	\n	\n Marathon County\, WI\, United States	\n	\n	 \n	+9 more\n\n \n\n \n	We are celebrating the “Unearth a Story” theme through our activity book\, summer performances\, craft activities\, book displays and more! SUMMARY:Marathon City: Book Club: "The Names" by Florence Knapp
DESCRIPTION:Join us and other book lovers for a discussion of a variety of books—new and old\, fiction and nonfiction! This July\, the group will discuss “The Names” by Florence Knapp. \nCan a name shape the course of a life? In the wake of a catastrophic storm\, Cora sets off with her nine-year-old daughter\, Maia\, to register the birth of her son. Her husband\, Gordon\, respected in the community but a controlling presence at home\, intends for her to follow a long-standing family tradition and name the baby after him. But when faced with the decision\, Cora hesitates… \nSpanning thirty-five years\, what follows are three alternate and alternating versions of their lives\, shaped by Cora’s last-minute choice of name. Full of hope\, this is the story of three names\, three versions of a life\, and the infinite possibilities that a single decision can spark. It is the story of one family and love’s endless capacity to endure\, no matter what fate has in store. \nEveryone is welcome to join the discussion. Stop by the library to check out a copy of the book. For more information\, call 715-443-2775.

SUMMARY:Edgar: Book Club: "French Braid" by Anne Tyler
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! This July\, we will discuss “French Braid” by Anne Tyler. \nThe Garretts take their first and last family vacation in the summer of 1959. They hardly ever venture beyond Baltimore\, but in some ways they have never been farther apart. Mercy has trouble resisting the siren call of her aspirations to be a painter\, which means less time keeping house for her husband Robin. Their teenage daughters\, steady Alice and boy-crazy Lily\, could not have less in common. Their youngest\, David\, is already intent on escaping his family’s orbit\, for reasons none of them understands. Yet as these lives advance across decades\, the Garretts’ influence on one another ripples unmistakably through each generation\, much like French-braided hair keeps its waves even after it is undone. \nNo registration is required\, and all are welcome! Stop by the library to check out a copy of the book. For more information\, please contact us at 715-352-3155.

SUMMARY:Hatley: Book Club: "Sharp Objects" by Gillian Flynn
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! This July\, we will discuss “Sharp Objects” by Gillian Flynn. \nFresh off a brief stay at a psych hospital\, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years\, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic\, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now\, installed in her old bedroom in her family’s Victorian mansion\, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons\, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming. \nEveryone is welcome to join the discussion. No registration is required. Stop by the library for a copy of the book to check out! For more information\, please contact us at 715-446-3537.

SUMMARY:Athens: Book Club: “The Boxcar Librarian” by Brianna Labuskes
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! This July\, the group will discuss “The Boxcar Librarian” by Brianna Labuskes. \nWhen Works Progress Administration (WPA) editor Millie Lang finds herself on the wrong end of a potential political scandal\, she’s shipped off to Montana to work on the state’s American Guide Series—travel books intended to put the nation’s destitute writers to work. Millie arrives to an eclectic staff claiming their missed deadlines are due to sabotage\, possibly from the state’s powerful Copper Kings who don’t want their long and bloody history with union organizers aired for the rest of the country to read. But Millie begins to suspect that the answer might instead lie with the town’s mysterious librarian\, Alice Monroe. \nMore than a decade earlier\, Alice Monroe created the Boxcar Library in order to deliver books to isolated mining towns where men longed for entertainment and connection. Alice thought she found the perfect librarian to staff the train car in Colette Durand\, a miner’s daughter with a shotgun and too many secrets behind her eyes. Now\, no one in Missoula will tell Millie why both Alice and Colette went out on the inaugural journey of the Boxcar Library\, but only Alice returned. The three women’s stories dramatically converge in the search to uncover what someone is so desperately trying to hide: what happened to Colette Durand. \nEveryone is welcome to join the discussion. Stop by the library to check out a copy of the book. For more information\, call 715-257-7292.

SUMMARY:Stratford: Book Club: “Broken Country” by Clare Leslie Hall
DESCRIPTION:Join library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! This July\, we will discuss “Broken Country” by Clare Leslie Hall\, a nominee for the Goodreads Readers’ Favorite Historical Fiction in 2025. \nBeth and her gentle\, kind husband Frank are happily married\, but their relationship relies on the past staying buried. But when Beth’s brother-in-law shoots a dog going after their sheep\, Beth doesn’t realize that the gunshot will alter the course of their lives. For the dog belonged to none other than Gabriel Wolfe\, the man Beth loved as a teenager—the man who broke her heart years ago. Gabriel has returned to the village with his young son Leo\, a boy who reminds Beth very much of her own son\, who died in a tragic accident. As Beth is pulled back into Gabriel’s life\, tensions around the village rise and dangerous secrets and jealousies from the past resurface\, this time with deadly consequences. Beth is forced to make a choice between the woman she once was\, and the woman she has become. \nNo registration is required\, and all are welcome! Stop by the library to pick up a copy of the book. Can’t make it? Join us to discuss the same book for our evening book club on July 28. For more information\, please contact us at 715-687-4420.
