Join us as we welcome Michael Perry. \nMichael Perry is a farm boy turned humorist\, New York Times bestselling author\, volunteer firefighter/first responder\, corporate speaker\, and amateur snow plow driver from rural Wisconsin\, known for leaving audiences laughing (and nodding\, and sometimes getting misty) from his “reflective roughneck” takes on life in rural America. \nPerry’s bestselling books include the volunteer firefighter memoir Population: 485 (subsequently adapted for the stage)\, Truck: A Love Story\, Coop\, Visiting Tom\, and Montaigne in Barn Boots. DESCRIPTION:The Central Wisconsin Book Festival welcomes cartoonist and illustrator Duachaka Her to the Marathon County Public Library for a conversation about her work! \nDuachaka (Dua)\, who also lives in central Wisconsin\, is the author and illustrator of mini comics such as “Witchy’s Halloween” and the comic books “The Collection” and “Then and Now.” She’ll join us at MCPL Wausau to talk about her art\, which often focuses on aspects of her Hmong-American identity and experiences\, and the audience will be able to see examples during the conversation. \nDua currently has an exhibit of her work at the Center for the Visual Arts in Wausau\, also called “Then and Now\,” through October 19. DESCRIPTION:The Central Wisconsin Book Festival welcomes author Gregory Lee Renz back to the McMillan Memorial Library in Wisconsin Rapids to discuss his second novel. \nGreg was a guest at our 2021 festival to share his debut novel\, “Beneath the Flames.” We’re very happy to host him again this year to discuss the follow up\, “Beyond the Flames.” The novel follows embittered Fire Captain Lee Garrison as he battles PTSD and a violent motorcycle gang to save a young girl forced into the sex trade. With the help of retired Police Captain Brigid O’Brien\, Garrison confronts the gang leader and uncovers a plot that threatens the entire community. This gripping thriller is a must-read for fans of action-packed\, emotionally charged stories. Renz himself is a retired fire captain and draws upon his wealth of experience to inform the novel. \nThis event is free and open to the public (along with all the rest of our CWBF events) and no registration is required. SUMMARY:Wausau: Center for the Visual Arts "Gathering" & "Then & Now" Receptions
DESCRIPTION:The Central Wisconsin Book Festival is excited to partner with the Center for Visual Arts in Wausau on receptions for their poetry and art exhibit\, “Gathering\,” as well as a new solo exhibition by cartoonist and illustrator Duachaka Her titled “Then and Now.” \nGathering is a uniquely curated exhibition of art created in different mediums and poems written in an ekphrastic response to the art. For those unfamiliar with the term\, ekphrastic poems are vivid descriptions of various scenes or works of art and all of the poems in the Gathering exhibit were written in direct response to the art pieces that will hang on the walls. Along with plenty of time to wander the exhibit\, the reception will feature a live poetry reading starting at 6:30pm and featuring many of the poets to contributed work to the exhibit. \nAlso that evening\, the CVA is hosting a reception for another current exhibition featuring the work of cartoonist and illustrator Duachaka Her\, a Central Wisconsin Book Festival alum who appeared at our 2018 festival and will join us for a conversation at MCPL Wausau the next day at 10am! \nThe reception is free and open to the public\, no registration required.
