SUMMARY:Rothschild: Book Club: “Starling House” by Alix E. Harrow
DESCRIPTION:Join the library staff and other book lovers for engaging discussions of books each month! July’s selection is “Starling House” by Alix E. Harrow. \nOpal is a lot of things—orphan\, high school dropout\, full-time cynic and part-time cashier—but above all\, she’s determined to find a better life for her younger brother Jasper. One that gets them out of Eden\, Kentucky\, a town remarkable for only two things: bad luck and E. Starling\, the reclusive nineteenth century author of The Underland\, who disappeared over a hundred years ago. All she left behind were dark rumors—and her home. Opal has been obsessed with The Underland since she was a child. When she gets the chance to step inside Starling House—and make some extra cash for her brother’s escape fund—she can’t resist. But sinister forces are digging deeper into the buried secrets of Starling House\, and Arthur’s own nightmares have become far too real. As Eden itself seems to be drowning in its own ghosts\, Opal realizes that she might finally have found a reason to stick around. In my dream\, I’m home. And now she’ll have to fight. \nNo registration is required and all are welcome! For more information\, call 715-359-6208.

SUMMARY:Rothschild: Book Club: “A Death in Door County” by Annelise Ryan
DESCRIPTION:Join us in a discussion of our April book club selection\, “A Death in Door County” by Annelise Ryan\, the first installment of their new mystery series. \nMorgan Carter\, owner of the Odds and Ends bookstore in Door County\, Wisconsin\, has a hobby. When she’s not tending the store\, she’s hunting cryptids—creatures whose existence is rumored; but never proven to be real. It’s a hobby that cost her parents their lives\, but one she’ll never give up on. So when a number of bodies turn up on the shores of Lake Michigan with injuries that look like bites from a giant unknown animal\, police chief Jon Flanders turns to Morgan for help. A skeptic at heart\, Morgan can’t turn down the opportunity to find proof of an entity whose existence she can’t definitively rule out. She and her beloved rescue dog\, Newt\, journey to the Death’s Door strait to hunt for a homicidal monster in the lake—but if they’re not careful\, they just might be its next victims. \nOpen to adults and new members are always welcome\, no registration is required. For more information\, contact us at 715-359-6208.

SUMMARY:Rothschild: Book Club: "The Giver of Stars" by Jojo Moyes
DESCRIPTION:Join others\, including the library staff\, in March for a discussion of “The Giver of Stars” by Jojo Moyes. \nPublisher’s summary: \nAlice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve\, hoping to escape her stifling life in England.  But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally claustrophobic\, especially living alongside her overbearing father-in-law. So when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library\, Alice signs on enthusiastically. The leader\, and soon Alice’s greatest ally\, is Margery\, a smart-talking\, self-sufficient woman who’s never asked a man’s permission for anything. \nThey will be joined by three other singular women who become known as the Packhorse Librarians of Kentucky. What happens to them–and to the men they love–becomes an unforgettable drama of loyalty\, justice\, humanity\, and passion. These heroic women refuse to be cowed by men or by convention. And though they face all kinds of dangers in a landscape that is at times breathtakingly beautiful\, at others brutal\, they’re committed to their job: bringing books to people who have never had any\, arming them with facts that will change their lives. Based on a true story rooted in America’s past\, The Giver of Stars is unparalleled in its scope and epic in its storytelling. \nNew members always welcome\, just read the book and show up! No registration required. Call the Rothschild Branch at 715-359-6208 for more information.

SUMMARY:Rothschild: Book Club: "Tomorrow\, and Tomorrow\, and Tomorrow" by Gabrielle Zevin
DESCRIPTION:Each month book club participants meet at the library to discuss a featured selection\, and February’s pick is “Tomorrow\, and Tomorrow\, and Tomorrow” by Gabrielle Zevin. \nOn a bitter-cold day\, in the December of his junior year at Harvard\, Sam Masur exits a subway car and sees\, amid the hordes of people waiting on the platform\, Sadie Green. He calls her name. For a moment\, she pretends she hasn’t heard him\, but then\, she turns\, and a game begins: a legendary collaboration that will launch them to stardom. They borrow money\, beg favors\, and\, before even graduating college\, they have created their first blockbuster\, Ichigo: a game where players can escape the confines of a body and the betrayals of a heart\, and where death means nothing more than a chance to restart and play again. This is the story of the perfect worlds Sam and Sadie build\, the imperfect world they live in\, and of everything that comes after success: Money. Fame. Duplicity. Tragedy. \nOpen to the public\, no registration required. Call the Rothschild Branch at 715-359-6208 for more information.

SUMMARY:Rothschild: Book Club: "The Measure" by Nikki Erlick
DESCRIPTION:Join other book lovers and our Rothschild Branch staff each month for discussions about a variety of books! \nIn November\, the group will discuss “The Measure” by Nikki Erlick. Today\, when you open your front door\, waiting for you is a small wooden box. The contents of this mysterious box tells you the exact number of years you will live. From suburban doorsteps to desert tents\, every person on every continent receives the same box. In an instant\, the world is thrust into a collective frenzy. Where did these boxes come from? What do they mean? Is there truth to what they promise? As society comes together and pulls apart\, everyone faces the same shocking choice: Do they wish to know how long they’ll live? And\, if so\, what will they do with that knowledge? \nOpen to adults and no registration is required – just read the book and show up! Call the Rothschild Branch at 715-359-6208 for more information.
