Marathon City: Book Club: “Isaac’s Storm” by Erik Larson

Join us and other book lovers for a discussion of a variety of books—new and old, fiction and nonfiction! This February, our group will discuss “Isaac’s Storm: A Man, a Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in History” by Erik Larson.
On September 8, 1900, the day began innocently in the seaside town of Galveston, Texas. Isaac Cline, the resident meteorologist for the U.S. Weather Bureau, failed to grasp the true meaning of the strange deep-sea swells and peculiar winds that moved through the city that morning. Mere hours later, Galveston found itself submerged beneath a monstrous hurricane that completely destroyed the town and killed more than 6,000 people. This book chronicles one man’s heroic struggle—and fatal miscalculation—in the face of a storm of unimaginable magnitude.
Everyone is welcome to join the discussion. Stop by MCPL-Marathon City to pick up a copy of the book! For more information call 715-443-2775.
