Summer Library Program (SLP)

Join us this summer at your local library! We are celebrating the “Unearth a Story” theme through our activity book, summer performances, craft activities, book displays and more! Our summer programming has something for all ages, but it is especially geared towards school-age children, tweens and teens.

Youth Services

Visit your local MCPL for thousands of children’s books, movies, music, magazines and other materials, plus regularly scheduled story times, arts & crafts, family activities, movie nights and more!

Young Adult Services

Visit your local MCPL for teen / young adult books, video games, graphic novels / manga, magazines, and other materials, plus special events—arts & crafts, movie nights, writing activities, reading challenges and more!

Homebound Services

For Marathon County residents unable to visit the library due to age, illness, accident or disability, our Homebound program offers a way to receive library materials at home—for free—by mail or special delivery. Call 715-261-7248 to register.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

We’re challenging parents to read more books with their children! This program introduces children to a wide range of literature, encourages families to spend quality time together and promotes pre-literacy so children enter school ready to read, listen and learn.

100 Books Before Graduation

Teens are invited to participate in our “100 Books Before Graduation” challenge! This challenge encourages students to read widely before adulthood. Rewards are earned at the 25, 50, 75 and 100 book milestones.

Meeting Rooms / Study Rooms

The library offers free room use for individuals and groups. Private study rooms are for educational nonprofit use. Public meeting rooms are available to community groups per library policy.

U.S. Passports

Apply for a U.S. passport at the Wausau library! Appointments are available weekly. Call 715-261-7240 before applying. Passport photos also are available. Visit the U.S. State Dept. website for details.

Notary Public

Get free notary services at MCPL Wausau! Available on a first-come, first-served basis—no appointments. Bring a photo ID and contact us to confirm availability before your visit.

Group Visits

We regularly welcome groups of students, community organizations, and others! To help us plan for your visit, please complete a “Group Visit Form.”

Technology Assistance

Need help using your computer, tablet, smartphone or e-reader? Library staff can provide free one-to-one tech help with a variety of topics!

Mobile Printing (Princh)

Print while at the library or from home using your own computer, tablet or smartphone! Upload your files to the Princh website, or use the Princh app. Then, visit your local MCPL to pick up and pay for your prints.

Computers / Wireless Internet (Wi-Fi)

The library offers free public access to computers and wireless internet. Low cost printing options are also available.

Early Literacy Center (ELC)

The Early Literacy Center (ELC) at MCPL Wausau is an enclosed area of the children’s department specially designed for young children and their caregivers!

Lactation Pod (Mamava)

Breastfeeding, pumping or nursing parents seeking comfort and privacy may use the Mamava lactation pod at MCPL Wausau! Free to use, with outlets for pumping. Access via the Mamava app or a code from library staff.

Tumblebooks

This online collection offers hundreds of animated, talking picture books, read-along chapter books, graphic novels, and educational games for kids.

Research Assistance

Contact the library’s reference desk at our Wausau headquarters for free assistance with research, online databases, or basic tech support. Reference desk staff are available in person or via phone, email or online chat.

Job-related Proofreading

Proctoring

Take your proctored exams at the library! Proctoring services are offered at all MCPL locations to anyone engaged in distance learning and online courses, as well as professional development and certifications.

Image / Document Scanners

Scanners are available at all MCPL locations to create digital files from physical media—photos, documents, etc. Scanning is free, but there is a fee if you choose to print your scans.

Fax Machines

Fax services are available at MCPL Wausau and MCPL Rothschild. Sending a fax is $2 for the first page and $1 for each additional page. Receiving a fax is $1 per page. Payment must be made by cash or check; credit or debit card payments are not accepted.

Photocopiers

Make printed duplicates of documents, photos, books and archival materials using library photocopiers! Black and white photocopiers are available at all MCPL locations. A color photocopier is available at MCPL Wausau.

Electronic Devices

Check out a variety of electronic devices at MCPL, including mobile Wi-Fi hotspots, Kindle Fire e-readers, Apple iPads, Android tablets, Windows laptops, Playaways, webcams, energy meters, media card readers, CD/DVD drives, floppy disk drives, A/V equipment and more. Availability varies by location.

Microfilm Archives / Scanner

MCPL offers microfilm archives of local newspapers dating back to the 1800s. Use digital viewers at our Wausau or Mosinee locations, or request additional microfilm through Interlibrary Loan.

LENA Start Central Wisconsin

Parents are invited to join these free classes designed to support and strengthen early language development in children ages 0–54 months!

Tax Forms

A limited selection of free federal and state tax forms and publications are offered at all MCPL locations. Typically, they do not arrive until the end of January (at the earliest) and are kept through April. Other tax forms may be printed for 10¢ per page.

Small Business Resources

The Marathon County Public Library provides support and tools for growth to community businesses with industry information, educational opportunities and communication channels to local experts and business resources.
