Human Trafficking

WAUSAU - Judy Woller, executive director of HAVEN in Merrill, will present a program on human trafficking at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 . in the Wausau Room at the Marathon County Public Library-Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau.

Woller, along with victims of and witnesses to human trafficking, will speak on the crime, which resembles modern-day slavery. According to the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance, "To date, more than 200 potential cases of trafficking have been identified in Wisconsin, but there have been only two state prosecutions and 4 federal convictions."

HAVEN, Inc., is a nonprofit organization in Lincoln County that serves domestic abuse and sexual assault victims and their children.

The program is free and open to the public. Registration is not required, but those who attend are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation to benefit HAVEN. The event is part of the Older American Day Program and is sponsored by the Friends of the Marathon County Public Library. For more information, call 715-261-7200.
