Spencer Branch Coordinator to Retire after 30 Years

Audrey K., Spencer branch coordinator will retire on July 3rd after 30 years of service to the Marathon County Public Library! As we get ready to bid Audrey farewell, we reflect on her journey with MCPL.

Audrey’s library career began 30 years ago, when she applied for an assistant position at the Stratford Branch Library, transitioning from life on a dairy farm. Her role expanded to the Marathon City branch in 2010, where she managed story times and assistant duties, and in 2014, Audrey was promoted to Spencer branch coordinator.

Throughout her time at MCPL, she experienced many memorable moments – from the time Audrey arrived at work to find a semi on fire to a line dancing class where she was going left when everyone else was going right! A particularly impactful moment was displaying the Wisconsin Remembers wall, where a heartfelt conversation with a Vietnam veteran left a lasting impression on her.

A highlight of her career was a “That Day In September” program in 2022 featuring Air Traffic Controller Chris Tucker, who shared his 9/11 experiences with nearly 400 attendees. The event, two years in the making, received a standing ovation and remains a cherished memory.

Audrey’s retirement plans include helping out around the family farm and a well-deserved vacation! We celebrate her contributions, dedication, and the lasting impact she has made on our community. Thank you for everything, and best wishes for a fulfilling retirement, Audrey!
