LENA Start Marathon County

Adult Event The first three years of a child's life are vital to brain development and exposure to talk is one of the most important factors. The LENA System measures the early language environment of children ages birth to 32 months. A LENA "talk pedometer" measures the number of words spoken to children. Each week, parents and caregivers will receive a printed report and learn helpful Talking Tips to improve the quality and quantity of talk with the child. Learn About LENA, informational meetings will be held February 19 and 22 at MCPL Wausau. LENA Start sessions will then run for 13 weeks at the library's Wausau Headquarters on Monday mornings or Thursday evenings. Sessions are free, but registration is required (see below). Free childcare will be provided for all LENA Start families. A free book for your child will be given at each session attended. All LENA Start materials are included and a snack or meal is provided free of charge. In addition, there will be special incentives and prizes.

Registration is required. To register, contact Nicole Tank at 715-845-6747 or email or text 715-660-0397.

LENA Start is made possible through a partnership between the Marathon County Public Library, the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service (WIPPS,) Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Medical College of Wisconsin-Central Wisconsin.
