Please note: This resource is only accessible on library computers / wireless internet (Wi-Fi).

With billions of records of census data, vital records, directories, photos and more, Ancestry is a comprehensive online database for conducting genealogical and local history research.

This is a special institutional version of Ancestry.com designed for public use. While it doesn’t include some personalized features like the consumer version, it provides access to the same massive core of historical documents.

Features:

  • U.S. collections include hundreds of millions of names from sources such as censuses; birth, death, and marriage records; and U.S. border crossing and trans-ocean ship records.
  • Wisconsin Historical Society Family History Records include 1800–1987 birth, death, and marriage indexes; state censuses; and wills / probate records.
  • Military collections include more than 150 million records containing information often not found elsewhere and includes records from the colonial to the Vietnam era.
  • Multimedia collections deliver millions of files ranging from family and gravestone photos to postcards and newsreels.
  • International collections include censuses, vital records, emigration indexes, ship lists, directories, and more—including Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, China, Russia, and others.
