Board of Trustees

The Marathon County Public Library Board of Trustees, commonly known as the Library Board, operates under Chapter 43 of the Wisconsin Statutes. Per its bylaws, the Library Board is composed of seven members: two members of Marathon County Board of Supervisors, one administrator of a Marathon County school district, and four representatives of the general public. Library Board members are appointed by the County Administrator with the approval of the Marathon County Board of Supervisors.

Library Board Meetings

Library Board Meetings normally occur on the third Monday of every month at noon at the library’s Wausau Headquarters, although irregular and/or off-site meetings may be scheduled occasionally. Meetings are open to the public except as specified under Wisconsin law.

In 2024, the board is scheduled to meet: 1/22, 2/19, 3/18, 4/15, 5/20 (at MCPL Marathon City), 6/17, 7/15, 8/19 (at MCPL Hatley), 9/16, 10/21, 11/18, 12/16. Additional meetings may be scheduled for special topics.

Board Meeting Packets are published monthly in lieu of separate minutes and agendas. These contain minutes from the preceding month, the agenda for the current month and associated attachments. Library board documents are posted on the Marathon County website (alongside documents related to other Marathon County boards and committees). Board meeting documents are archived online for approximately two years; access to older meeting documents may be granted to the public upon request.
