History of the Stratford Branch

The Stratford Branch has served the community since 1930, when the Stratford Woman’s Club began volunteering their time to catalog books and manage library services. The library initially operated out of the Knights of Columbus Hall before moving to the back of the post office.

In 1947, the library was relocated to the Village Council Chambers, where it remained until the construction of a dedicated library building in 1995. Throughout its history, the library staff have worked to introduce innovative services, starting with the first story hours in 1947 and the rental of bestsellers for 10 cents per week in 1948.

The Stratford Library officially joined the county library system in 1949, solidifying its role as a vital resource for area residents. Since its inception, the Stratford Branch has remained a cherished community institution, continually adapting to meet the evolving needs of its patrons.
