Have you discovered the digital audio books, videos, and music that you can download and listen to or watch for FREE with your library card?  Check out the large collection of digital audio books, and the newer collections of downloadable video and music.  Pump up your exercise program with a Yoga video, and brush up on your Spanish by listening to Instant Immersion Spanish while you exercise.  Then relax and listen to a Mozart concerto, all for free with your valid library card..  Titles can be downloaded to your computer, some can be burned to a CD, or transferred to your portable device.  To access, go to the Library's home page and choose OverDrive (digital downloads) from the "Catalogs" tab.  If you...

Computer Classes @ Your Library

Free Computer Classes begin next week, January 14, at the Wausau location for beginning and intermediate computer users.  Classes are free and open to the public.  Classes are scheduled for Monday mornings at 10:00AM, Tuesday evenings starting at 6:30PM, and Thursday afternoons beginiing at 2:00PM.  To register, please call the Library's Reference Desk at 261-7230, email the Library at mcplref@wvls.lib.wi.us, IM us or stop in.  For a complete list of classes and times please see the Computer Class Schedule here.

Tax Forms at the Library!

Merry Christmas from the IRS! The Wausau Headquarters now has a supply of 2007 Federal Tax Forms available. Customers needing forms 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, 1040X along with accompanying schedules should stop up to the Library's 2nd Floor and take what they need. Many Federal forms are no longer available in paper form but can be copied from the IRS site (www.irs.gov). Wisconsin tax forms will be available at MCPL beginning in mid-January. Wisconsin forms can be copied from the Department of Revenue site (www.dor.state.wi.us/html/formpub.html).

NoveList @ Your Library

NoveList is now available for you to use at home, school, work, or on the go for free with your library card.  NoveList is a fiction database covering 135,000 titles.  Find books that you like on certain subjects or that take place in certain time-periods, books that have similiar plots,  or readlikes--books similar to others that you have read and enjoy.  Books that have received awards and honors are listed, as well certain types of books--romances, mysteries, horror, and more.  Find books for  young adults, adults, and children.  The "Grab and Go" lists  of books for children are conveniently grouped by age levels.  Check it out.   It is a great resource for teachers, students, parents, book discussion ...

HUNTING @ your library

It may be to late for you to hunt for a wild turkey for your Thanksgiving dinner, but you still have your opportunity to bag a "thirty-pointer". The time is upon us for hunters to be sitting in their stands waiting for white-tailed deer. Why not pass the time by reading up on hunting a little more? Book Sale and Basket Auction

With Halloween behind us, we have the excellent opportunity to do some early gobbling at Wausau this weekend. The Friends of the Library are holding a Book Sale this weekend at the Wausau location. Sunday, November 4 is the special bag sale where you can cram your bag full for only $5.00.   What a deal! And while you are here, be sure to bid on several of the magnificent baskets that the Library Foundation has in the entrance of the Library.  Bids close on November 4,  so come in today and gobble up these deals.

Events at Your Library!

October is a big month for us here at the Marathon County Public Library!  Take a moment to check out our events calendar to see what's going on in your area. This week we have the Athens Almost Beyond Description Program at 12:00pm on Thursday October 4th in the Athens Fire Hall meeting room.  At this program you will get firsthand accounts of people who have passed through Wisconsin. Next week on October 10th in Edgar you have the opportunity to attend "Fighting the Flames," a re-creation of firefighting as it was shown at the World's Fair and midways from 1904-1907.  This event starts at 2:00pm at the Edgar branch of the library.  October 14-20 is Teen Read Week!  Events and games geared towards teens...

Passports

Apply for your passport at the Marathon County Public Library, Wausau Headquarters Library . The time for processing a routine passport application has returned to 6-8 weeks, and 3 weeks for expedited passports.  Effective October 1,  all U.S citizens traveling by air to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda must present a valid passport to enter or depart from the United States.  Customers who have applied for passports will receive two mailings from U.S. Passport Services--the issued passport and a separate return mailing of submitted citizenship documents, such as birth certificates.  These mailings may occur days apart from each other. Cha-Cha-Changes at MCPL

Wausau Library customers will have noticed several changes at the Library. First of all, the TeenZone has been relocated to the Second Floor. Teens should enjoy the newopen, airy location as it offers lots and lots of space to chill!   Secondly, the Short Story collection has been moved next to the Adult Fiction shelves on the 1st Floor. The move creates a one-stop shopping destination for Fiction lovers. Other changes are in the works as the Library re-invents itself to better serve our customers. Have you been wanting to learn another language or brush up on vocabulary that you may have lost through the years? Rosetta Stone, the new online language learning resource, is a wonderful way to fulfill these dreams.
